Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Co. in East Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania April 1904. Factory builds streetcar motors. A camera moving forward on an overhead crane gives a traveling view of men working on machinery. Carts carrying parts and pieces of machinery pass by on rails; cranes lift machinery; and men perform their various duties, including hammering objects. This factory was not unionized at this time. There were mass strikes in 1913 and 1916 but it wasn't until the 1930s that this factory was unionized by the United Electrical, Radio & Machine Workers of America (UE). From Library of Congress digital collection.
Great video.
I love the debris falling on the workers at about 1:02 into the film.
But a Copyright symbol at the beginning?
If this was made in 1904, it has been in the public domain for a LONG time!
