Why, God, why? Here is the scene from the 1969 Soviet movie version of "Brothers Karamazov," where Zosima has just died, Father Ferapont is acting like a jerk, and Alyosha runs out of the monastery very upset. Alyosha is played by Andrey Myagkov - Soviet cinema buffs would know him from The Irony of Fate.

  • THANK YOU so much for this!!! I love Alyosha, he is my all time favorite literary character, next to Ivan and Dimitri, of course...

  • the monks equated accelerated putrefaction to inner corruption which is wrong, quite sad ...

  • Alright, I'll look into that. Thanks.

  • Look for the 1956 version of this story featuring Yul Brynner, Richard Basehart and a very young William Shatner as

Alyosha. Shatner is better in the role.

  • Wow, thank you! It's subtitled too!

But Alyosha does not look as I'd pictured him.....

  • Thank you so much for this! Please post more subtitled scenes from The Brothers Karamazov, I enjoy watching them so much. Thanks again! :D

  • thanks for posting! I have the dvd of the soviet's version of Crime and Punishment (best there is) but I have not seen this one yet.
