This is a basic drill that is widely used (with many variants) in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The video was taken at Plus One Defense Systems in West Hartford, CT.
@SpiralBJJ The moves shown in the Gracie Combatives are intended to be used on someone who doesn't know jiu-jitsu at all. That is pretty clear if you look at the street attacks and the bjj counters shown. Neither would a bjj player attack with those attacks, nor would those counters work against a bjj player.
The irony is that, since nowadays so many people know the basics of bjj, the OLD tapes by Rorion (which addressed both sport and self-defense scenarios) are more current!
The "Gracie Gift Pass", personally I'm not a fan of this pass but I do love to bait the triangle in a similar fashion to make my opponent open their guard. I see old school guys hit this pass sometimes and I feel that there are little details I simply don't know. One thing to take note is that this is taught on the old Rorion Gracie tapes but isn't taught on his sons Gracie Combatives course.
