February 20th saw a double header on the main line. Tyesely's 4965 Rood Ashton Hall and 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe pair up with Vintage Train's 'The Great Western Incursion' from Tyesely to Didcot via Worcester, Gloucester, Swindon and back. The weather for the day was to be mainly sunny. With this run it was not to be missed!

This run was a treat for my 21st birthday, hence why I uploaded this film after midnight to the day of my birthday (Feb 22nd)

Starting off at Kidderminster the GWR pair make a fine sight crossing over Hoobrook viaduct after leaving Birmingham. After watering at Gloucester the pair onslaught the 1 in 60 gradient at Frampton Mansell, although technically I was on wrong side for the sun I had little options as other spots were taken. After being turned and serviced at Didcot the pair return the working at the southern end of Sapperton nearby Hailey woods. The final scene sees the pair through Cheltenham Spa station.

Please note, the 2nd shot at Frampton Mansell was taken at a level crossing as I wasn't tresspassing.

With special thanks to David Oldham, Philip Griffin and Ben Jervis who took cracking films and photographs of the engines.

  • Amazing cool - you could have been a sniper. That middle shot is very special, like the engine is alive! The smoke and the sound also great.

  • Cheers Si, 3 days on and still getting birthday wishes :D

  • Great vid, 5*.

  • Many thank yous Martyn, dunno what to say on that. But the assault on Frampton Mansell was a difficult one to get as the nerves were getting to me as the pair were approaching. Interesting info you mentioned about Kinlet Hall stalling on Sapperton, I might look into it.
