This is my 6 month old grand daughter and my 2 year old Boxer mix. A lot of people feel uncomfortable having a large dog around a baby. That is just not necessary. If you introduce baby and dog early on and use basic obedience commands when the dog gets too excited (if that happens, as most dogs are naturally gentle with babies) the dog can quickly become baby's best friend and protector. A good way to begin this familiarization is to bring a hospital baby blanket home before the baby and let your canine family member sleep with it.
