"The Guns of Brixton" is a song by The Clash on their third album, London Calling, released in 1979. It was written and sung by bassist Paul Simonon, who grew up in Brixton, south London. It has a strong reggae influence, reflecting the culture of the area, with a knowing nod to the classic reggae gangster film, The Harder They Come. A somewhat heavier, faster version than the one found on London Calling appeared on the live compilation From Here to Eternity: Live, released in 1999.

The song pre-dates the race riots that took place in the 1980s in Brixton but the lyrics depict the feelings of discontent that were building due to heavy-handedness of the police that lead to the riots, the recession and other problems at that time.

  • @nestatim1 please leave behind all that european conservatism.we are nothing else than working class heroes.can't you see?it's very funny (in a good way, with no hard feelings) to say that athens has to blame only itself.the problem is more complicated than this.study the european economic structure and the global banking system, find out about the policy of international companies in greece and finally you will get to the point. But offcourse you have a point, but not strong enough.

  • @flippyflyer thumb whore

  • Violent protest is much easier to handle for the people in the corridors of power my friends. This is not always (as we can see in some ongoing struggles against systematic economic terrorism) the rule; yet violence always tends to dehumanize the factions that seek to gain from violence. There is much evidence for the power of peoples united (under pacifistic aims) that suggest a shift in consensus social acceptance toward their authority, and ultimately their validity in struggle for equality.

  • @Bolshevikred1 You'd have to kill Joe Strummer. He was the son of a diplomat.
