Animals continue to amaze me with the level of intelligence they possess which is beyond our comprehension. Another example of it was displayed to me today when I was just driving through a village. It was hot as ever and I saw a cow trying to drink water from a handpump on the village road. First i thought she was trying to lick away water which was dropping from the pump. So I stopped to see what was going on.
To my amazement, she was operating the pump with her horns and then drinking water at the same time. She was using her head to push down the lever and when water flowed through the spout, she drank that water and kept repeating the exercise. I shot a small video before doing anything. It is uploaded at this link :

After that I just walked over to her and stood there, very near to the pump. Then she stopped drinking and for a second the people watching thought that she would attack me. But to their amazement she looked straight into me eyes questioning me not to stand there like a fool and use my limbs to operate the pump so she can drink. That one moment between us was unspoken and as if she had an unwarranted right over me, that I was bound by some universal love to help her. It was so obvious for her that there was not an iota of hesitation or doubt that she had any other intention. She hadnt asked me, but was teling me to operate that pump, and Now !
So I started operating the pump. (1 pic attached) . She must have drunk at least 50-100 lts of water as I stood there for real 20 minutes operating the pump while she was drinking the water, non stop. When she was done she looked at me in satiation and contentment as if asking me to stop. First she closed her eyes for 15 seconds catching her breath. Then she looked at me straight and flipped her delicate ears with an expression as if showering her divine motherly love upon me. I really felt I was standing next to a mother and not an animal. She had so much love in her eyes that I felt I had actually drunk all that water on this hot afternoon and not her.

We both went our ways without greeting each other, but only sharing some short but real moments of love.

Even though I was a bit amazed by her intelligence but she was least touched or surprised by my involvement as if telling me & reminding me yet again that it was nothing else but "obvious" that all beings had equal right to water, food and shelter and it was our obvious duty to help each other with the same. Nothing great !

  • Wait....they have video cameras there.....but they drink out of a hand pump on the sidewalk...and share it with a cow?!?

  • @medmark77

read the text again. the person who took this video does not live there. and the handpump is for passerbys. Indians are compassionate to humans as well as animals. and yes we share a lot of things ;)

  • @rishi - my comment was not directed at you. There are many who had complained that you should have helped the cow instead of shooting it. I do know from your comments that you did help it, but in my opinion this cow has learnt how to help itself. Better leave it that way rather than make it dependent by "helping" it.

  • @karthikk16

    sure karthik !

  • @allwhowanttohelpthecow - The cow seems to be very clearly helping himself. Sure the camera man can "help" it today. Is he going to around every day to "help" the cow ?

  • @karthikk16

the villagers were watching me film this and they realised that while this cow is there in front of them daily, they had ignored it. Since that day they have kept a bucket new the pump which is filled by someone or the other at all times. so people do learn if we can stop for a minute and set a small example without worrying about criticism or that people will call you a fool

While my intelligence is intack, but it would be good for you if you would rediscover your observation and patience. ...for you havent read the writeup with this video in which i clearly state that if i spent about a minute in recording this, i spent good 20 minutes standing and pumping water for this holy cow which we INDIANS love as a lovable animal and not for some crapy religious misconception people carry sine ages across some parts of the world.

    thanks

  • @equidreams

please tell me what else would you call a cow who is in yuor own words smart enough to learn. the word i can think of is "intelligence".

lets give up oue egos as humans. i can show you freaked out videos in which a dog is talking (proper words from a language, as in speaking ; my own dog did it ...he recently passed away), birds forming houses with phonomenon archtectural finness, etc etc. They are both intelligent, adaptative and emotionally qualified. so r humans but v ignore it
