The hot swap can be used with ID cards. Although as a security precaution you may want password authentication in conjunction with the Java cards . The SunRays can connect to several server based operating systems for users to use including Solaris 9/10, Linux or Windows Terminal Servers. There are also options for virtualized environments, maybe a virtualized Windows XP box, or a FreeBSD virtualized environment for instance.
