It is much easier if you play at the begginig low D with D power chord on 4 string and after that you just move that finger along the neck, no need for straching, plus sound is much better this way instead of plucking open string D

Yeah its a pretty good interpretation. Also, Jonny is an incredible guitarist so it's gonna be difficult to mimick his exact rendition of this song.
