hardly any of them songs are actually gothic, or sound to me distinctly gothic.

where are the bells, the strangeness gothic music has about it. Being gothic is meant to twist your mind not.

"being gothic is meant to blablabla..." I ignore this kind of assertive phrases. People who listen to goth rock do not always have to be clad-in-black like most of the gothic subculture. Similarly I do not have to see bells and vampires as essential parts of goth rock. Besides I am not a predictable goth rock listener unlike you.

What about Joy division?

new dawn fades is a great example of early goth rock, along with The birthday party, their song six strings that drew blood is mind blowingly dark.

Joy Division and the Birthday Party are as good as the bands on the video. but the reason why I excluded them is a matter of conceiving the genre. I see them as quintessential post-punk bands. thanks for the comment.

well, I don't understand why the people believe things like Nightwish and other Metal bands are Gothic, i like Nightwish, bur nightwish it's Symphonic metal

Why people geople get confused between Goth Rock and Gothic Metal? Goth rock is an off shoot of post punk and Gothic Metal is a off shoot of Doom Metal. They're all good genres but Metal is Metal and Goth is Goth.

@oramikleepunk Yes, its post-punk. Goth, New-Wave & Synthpop are all sub genres of Post-punk. Its a more refined version after the time of Ramones, Sex Pistols & The Clash which sounded too raw.
