Here is the original hit version of a song about a very sweet pie that originated with the Pennsylvania Dutch and subsequently became part of the Southern cuisine, "Shoo Fly Pie". This song was composed by Guy Wood and Sammy Gallop in 1945 and promptly recorded by Stan Kenton & His Orchestra with June Christy doing the lead vocal. Dinah Shore covered it not long after in 1946. Most of the Big Bands of the 1940's had female vocalists and Stan Kenton's group was no different: with first, Anita O'Day, and then, Miss Christy.
Kenton thought the sun rose and set on her. He was right. He called her "Christy."

Lol, yet another one of the songs that my grandpa could only ever remember one line of. This one, "I guess I'll get the paper and go home", and "Hut sut rawlson on the rillerah and a brawla brawla suid" (Lol, The Hut Sut Song took me forever to find! I didn't understand the words so I assumes he was remembering wrong. I tried googl'ing everything from "hot soot rising on the railroad"...then when I typed in what I actually heard, I found it! :o)
