I was totally guessing. ^_^;

Is there actually such a place in or near Shimizu city in Shizuoka? Can you verify it? Or are you simply guessing? Because "Minashigo Misaki" sounds very plausible. Fits right in with the description of the place he was giving us. For those of you who don't know the meaning of the word "minashigo," it means "orphan."

Possibly "minashigo" followed by misaki?

@metube555 Thank you for your nice comments. They mean more to me than I can express easily with words and are one of the catalyst which makes me get up and out the door. I hope that you do have the chance to realize your dream of exploring in Japan. And if you ever find yourself in the area of Shizuoka then please let me know as it would be my sincere pleasure to take you along on an outing in the mountains. -Kurt :-)

Do you know what that "point" is called in Japanese? Does your wife? Her parents? Anyone? I'm very interested in finding out. That was a great piece of Japan trivia! Awesome history lesson. Thanks!!

Hello TiramisuHappy, I'm sorry for my delay in response. I'm afraid that nobody in my family knows the answer and I only remember the English translation. I encountered this bit of history in a book or article about the old Tokaido highway and I'm afraid the the title or other source info has completely escaped my memory. All I'm left with is the story which impressed and moved me. I'm very sorry that I can't provide this info. If I find some local who knows I will certainly post. -Kurt :-)
