Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve C-130H aircraft equipped with the modular airborne firefighting system (MAFFS) are deploying lines of retardant with high levels of precision. The retardant allows firefighters on the ground to more effectively contain wildfires throughout California. The red coloring allows aircrews and ground firefighters to see where the retardant has been dropped. This makes any gaps in the retardant lines easily visible. With time, the red color fades away.
