Garda Reserve Prommotional Video

The Garda Síochána Act, 2005 provides for the establishment of a Garda Reserve.

The Garda Reserve is a voluntary unpaid body drawn from the community to assist the existing Service at times when extra personnel are required.

Reserve Gardaí will have certain Garda powers while on duty and perform their policing duties as determined by the Commissioner under the supervision of, and supported by, regular Garda members.

The principal role of the reserve will consist of local patrols and crime reduction initiatives, targeted at specific local urban or rural problem areas. Members of the Garda Reserve can also expect to be involved in policing major incidents and events, and in providing other operational support to regular Garda members on the basis of an individual Garda Reserve Members skills or local knowledge. They will be expected to provide a quality service at all times and are a manifest sign of partnership between the Garda Siochana and the local community.

The first intake of Garda Reserves commenced training at the Garda College, Templemore, Co. Tipperary on the 30th September 2006.

The stations which they are assigned to are Pearse Street and Store Street in the Dublin Metropolitan Region, Anglesea Street, Cork City, Galway city and Sligo Town.

These trainees became fully operational members of the Garda Reserve on the 15th of December 2006 following a graduation ceremony at the Garda College.

@orangeskillme12 "An Garda Siochana" = "Guardians of the peace of Ireland". I think the reserves are an important aspect of the force itself. Yes the training is nowhere near the full timers, however if you ask most GRs, they would prefer to be trained as in line with their full time colleagues. Me personally, I think they should aim to recruit more "younger" members as a lot of older people such as the decent folks in this video have no hope of joining full time because of their age. My 2 cents

120 hours training what a fucking joke... Deliberate attempt to make them look like fully trained Gardai ... Bringing them down to Templemore for a Passing Out !!! What a fucking insult to those who spent years doing the proper training in the full time Garda ... These fucking idiots think they are like and accepted by the full time Gardai ... my 4 friends all joined d gardai and turned into assholes,the said they train you in templemore to be a bollix,thats why they are the way they are,mabey some of the reserve will bring some decency and common sense to the force .
