Not only are things not always that simple as yes/no...black/white.... in my opinion, they are rarely that simple.
-
I agree. Things aren't always so simple. I disagree with the death penalty, death by the state in what they deem to be a civilized manner. I would have no problem with justifiable homicide by the family or loved ones of someone who has been murdered or hurt. Which really more barbaric? To me, the state strapping someone to a chair and murdering someone who done nothing to them personally is horrifying! It, to me, is like being an assassin.
Nothing in the world is black OR white.
Just my .02!

Umm not really convinced by the idea, after all if I say I have dominion over life I can choose to demonstrate this equally by deciding not to kill a certain life form (the one with the nice words on) and killing another one instead, I still have dominion over the bacteria. Although I do think putting the message there in the first place is pretty cool.
Doesn't the verse deal with god giving this dominion to people, I could take the view that I have dominion but not from god and destry verse

I understand the contradiction, but....
By design, though, we must kill living cells because we must eat. So it *is* our decision, and it also *isn't*.
I think our decision to kill or not to kill depends on reasons rather than rights.

I don't see how destroying the bacterium means you disagree with the coded message in its DNA.

same here, except i'm yet to watch 2 more times.

It's good to see a new video from you! It's been far too long since your last one.

The black and white approach to morality is not only useless, it's dangerous. In my opinion, the art involving the bacteria should be interesting for the bacteria alone, and how they react to outside interference. The details of the interference are secondary to the reaction of the bacteria, which is quite interesting.
I don't see how the reverse argument is true. Couldn't I just agree and then activate the light anyway? Or agree and not activate the light?

If you agree and don't activate the light then the theory goes that you are being inconsistent by not intervening in the bacterium's growth when you supposedly hold dominion over it. But in so doing you would also be destroying the passage from which you derive the idea. That's the idea, anyway.

Yeah, I see that, but I still think it's a bit silly. I'm going to look into this guy though, thanks for the info.

Hell, just the concept of transgenic art is bitchingly cool!

To quote a brilliant line I one saw on a poorly designed shirt:
"I think you'll find it's more complicated than that."
I avoid burning books.
The question remains:
What prototypical effects did the new lines of code have on the waskilly bacterium.

Well should they evolve sentience some day their inteligen design proponents will have a lot more ammo. Oh, who am I kidding, intelligent design proponents don't need sentience.
