Many people from china immigrated down to singapore as it was the most prospers at that time thanks to sir stamford raffles. Hokkien do trading and stuff. Cantons were many coolies, hainanese came later so much of the jobs were taken up so they worked as cooks. And over at singapore, they used spices and chicken stock to cook the rice, and the chicken... And invented the dish as a result. It has became world famous now

@Nepo35 It's originally Hainanese (an island is china sea).
The people there immigrated and settled down in south east asia. They brought they food to the new home and adapted to each places.
