The rally.com.au Rally Challenge was introduced to the Australian Rally Championship in 2006 as a second tier of competition for privateers to address some of the cost issues involved with competing in rallying at a national level. It was designed to increase the level of privateer participation in the ARC. In 2007 the season was won by PBR's Paul Batten but competition was so tight it came down to the final round to decide the winner.
