I dutifully tabbed out every note, tough and basic, that the bass player plays on the original version of this song. There is a live tab underneath my bass that lets you follow along as the three of us bassists play (dueling basses anyone?) to the song.
I'd like to pat myself on the back for making this video. -pat pat- This song was two of two that I had to learn for a Praise and Worship band that may or may not still be good for me to join. I pushed this song off again and again. I learned it right away when I first knew I needed to know it, but I learned it "my way," which just meant that I didn't learn all the notes, and I was being lazy about it. You couldn't blame me. I didn't have the equipment (and really the amplification) that I got a couple of weeks later. Even when I got the needed equipment, I still put off covering and tabbing this song, because the bridge had this really hard, fast bass run that I knew I would never be able to play. Time went on, and I had put off learning this song too long, so I tabbed it. I was about to cover it when my headphones were STOLEN! I live by Detroit, so there's always the risk of robbery (oh alliteration...). I did LOTS of research online on headphone.com (amazing, amazing headphone site), and I made my choice. I bought the Sennheiser HD 650's on Amazon. I got them used (opened box) for REALLY cheap! I know so many random facts about my new cans. I said a lot of them in my unboxing video that I posted two posts before this video. Watch it and learn!
I started doing takes for this song at midnight on Monday, October eighteenth. It is seven in the morning on Tuesday, October nineteenth right now. I did not go to sleep. I've constantly been working on this video for hours and hours. When I do takes on iMovie using my Built-In iSight WebCam on my 2009 MacBook Pro, I call my takes the acronym of the song name and then the take number. When I got to take "GYR 8," I was so personally entertained by the "Great" sound of it, I started adding letters after the number. The take I used for this video was "GYR 8 l." I was making at least one mistake every take. I was getting tired. It was well-past four in the morning, so I went with that take. I did a take after it, which was horrendous, because I was so tired, so that especially let me know I had my take!
My big error (I had a few, but one stood out) was in the second verse. I switched notes a little late. It fit with the song, but it wasn't what the bass player played in the original version of the song. I love the swing that the original bass player created in his bassline.
In the bridge in the hard part, I started hitting it. It was a total accident. On the take I used, I didn't hold the bar on the bottom hard enough, so it buzzed, but I SWEAR I hit the run before! I love that it's basically a BASS SWEET-PICKING part!
Please keep me in your prayers! I have like ten or so songs that I plan to tab and cover as soon as possible. I still need a job. I am trying to find my place between God and I. Life is crazy. It is truly nothing you will probably ever live to see a parallel in your own experience. Stuff is trying. There's literally nowhere I can flee to escape what's happening. I would run away and start over if I could, but it's futile.
I got a new strap for my 1977 Rickenbacker 4001 bass. I never had a strap dedicated for it. I was using my 2008 Fender American Jazz Bass's stock strap, but now it's with that bass with a friend. I got an AWESOME strap (I really apologize for the ALL CAPS tendency. It's early. I am uncreative at this hour.). I got a Black Reunion Blues 100% Merino Wool strap, and it feels nicer than nylon, and it's thick and not too uncomfortable. I love that its flat black and humble. That's how I like to roll. I also got a pair of black Dunlop Strap-Locks for the strap. I am pleased.
I HATE the end of "God You Reign." It's cheesy. Admit it, it is. I hate the cheesiness of a lot of worship music. I decided not to wait out the end as I usually do. In other takes I pulled off some pretty sweet shots. In one of the take I actually broke a light-bulb on one of the lamps that light my musical escapades. Fun times that only I enjoy (and I guess you too). "GYR 8 l" was lame, because I lost the balls when they bounced not towards the mini basketball net. I love that net. I love those balls. hahahaha. I got them along with full-size dodgeballs. I put out an ad to start a random dodgeball tournament. Unfortunately it never happened. Dodgeball anyone? Email me if you're a Michigander!
I wrote a too-long description.

@juliqtlove — Thank you! Please pray for me. I am burned out from making so many videos. Pray I can get back into it soon. Pray I come to God. What challenges you in life?

@ShanaNoTsukaima — Paul McCartney said that it was the foundation of music in a band. He also said it controls a song from beneath. I agree. Do you play the bass guitar? Have you seen my newer videos?

@rodwyr — The bass guitar is half of the rhythm section. Dude, bassists are a dime a dozen. I used to play every Wednesday on bass in front of 2-5 people. I also had to lead vocals. It STUNK! Now years later our band & group grew.
Set up a bass and an amp in your church room. Someone will notice it's not being used, and they'll volunteer to play it. That's what my youth pastor did.
You should post vids on YouTube. Are you in a band-band?

@SOCPastor — My purpose is not to teach. If I teach anything, it's a byword. My purpose is to level up and innovate. Teaching is a side thing that may or may not happen. I don't count on anything in life. It can all change in two seconds. There was a young American author in the nineteen-oughts that learned she had a terminal disease. Over the next year or two as she wasted away, she wrote two or three masterworks that put her on the map forever. I hope for meaningful prodigiousness; that's all.

@rodwyr — I agree they're out of tune. I tuned my bass, but I didn't tune it over again after so many takes.
