I think more likely it's a mix of both opinions. The bullet hit the plate, fragmented, as Sean says, then fragments kicked up additional dust as they were deflected into the dirt. Hitting something at 1240 yards is QUITE a feat, but it isn't impossible. Especially with a .300RUM. I, for one, am impressed. I wish I had somewhere to shoot half that far.

@DrTadHusseinWinslow so he miss?

nice shot and dont worry about drtadhusseinwinslow I shoot a mosin nagant with hungerian military surplus silver tip ( steel core) I have not shot beyond 100 metres but even when my bullets ( which are steel core not lead core like the bergers are) hit steel plate, all that is left is little flakes of bullet and copper jacket. most shooters would know this. my guess is that he doesnt shoot at all ! keep up the good work!

Scope?
Actually, I misspoke a bit - those bullets will turn to dust with a high enough velocity at short ranges, but they won't look anything like that - you an clearly see that the bullet hits low, then pushes and kicks up dirt behind the target. If the bullet had hit and disintegrated, which it wouldn't at that range /velocity, but if it had, you wouldn't be able to see the visual of it at that range at all, let alone that dramatically.

@DrTadHusseinWinslow
Well all I can tell you is that it is the truth in fact do a search for user passtheammo and ask him he was there along with two others and can vouch for my statements. BTY my velocity is still 1,900fps at 1200 yards and like I said before you really are just giving your opinion because you havent done it. There was a long line of lead dusting underneath the steel a couple of feet in each direction.

Obviously, you would have kept the inset vid of the closeup of the target on if it wasn't a miss, rather than taking it off the screen. No, not even Berger VLDs do that. Silliness - but if that's really the range, you're a far better shot that me, that's for sure.

@DrTadHusseinWinslow First off tell me what you shoot for a rifle?
Search the video bullet on steel and see what you find!!!!!!
I didnt take video of the steel I took a picture as a after thought because you couldn't see the target very good.
Now a 30-06 with a 150gr bullet at 2910fps has only 507 foot pounds at 1200 yards. My rifle shoots the 210gr Berger at about 3,300fps which gives me 1,600 foot pounds at 1,200 yards. The same as the 06 at 400 yards.

You're either an extreme dipstick or a bold-faced liar because bullets don't turn to dust, particularly at that range. But you ARE an excellent shot, as the miss that kicked up the dirt was only a smidge low!

@DrTadHusseinWinslow
Now tell you have done the same thing with a rifle with the same ballistics you are giving your opinion and not fact because you havent done it so you dont know. This rifle will shoot almost completely through a 1/2 steel plate at 600 yards and we have shoot the same steel with a 30-06 and all we did was take the paint off!
