You were fine until the end, "just as accurate as any .223", lol. Some rounds are just more accurate. a 22-250 is a bench rest round and top varmint round. A 7.62X39 is not very accurate and no companies even make match bullets for it because it would be a waste of time. I will put up my 75gr HPBT against any 7.62x39 load any day at 600 yards.
Bench rest rifle, no. Battle rifle, yes. the drop at 300 yards is about 27 in. This is comparable to other 30cal rounds. Its still has 634 ft-lbs of energy at that distance. Which is more than enough to go through paper, skin, bone, whatever. The reason they don't make match ammo for the round is the Wolf stuff is so cheep no one can compete on price, but I reload this round all the time with a 150 gr btsp, its just as accurate as any .223.
An average AK groups 4-5" at 100 yards so at 300 you will be lucky to hit paper unless the target is large. The AK round drops like a brick after 200 yards. They don't make any match ammo for that round and the guns are just not very accurate for long range work. The round overall is not a bench rest type round.
Y'all need to come up for the Machine Gun Shoot in April, at Knob Creek!

What does the 22-250 have to do with this conversation. It's a bench rest round....................Okay Tiger.

Why the 7.62 x 39 is leaving the barrel at about 2400 fps that is more than enough to reach out to 300 hundred yards, 1000 yard might be pushing it.

I'd like to see some one shoot like that with an AK. 300 yards would be pushing it.

Is there such thing as a 30 round magazine for a 7.62x51mm gun? I've heard of a 40 round magazine for 5.56 on Bushmaster, com
