  • Very good. you show how to capture the nuances of the Stones version. Your tone and vibrato are very good approximations as well. I agree with those who say you are a musician and more than mechanical.

    Thank you!

  • GREAT!!!5*+

  • @strat63 For a interesting twist to the open G tuning, try replacing the low E with a 0,12 tuned to high D!

Kind of a nashville open G sound!

  • I think you nailed it. Thanks

  • nice one man, thanks for the post, made it easy to figure out all the options that i couldn't figure out myself. love playing around in open tuning, it is a different instrument that way. keith is so cool isn't he (musically)! hendrix/jimmy page he is not (luv em both), and never wanted to be, that's what makes him and his riffs so cool!

  • Best Brown Sugar Instructional on the Internet. Thank you for your posts. You are a real player-not just mechanical or technical like some other teachers.

  • Thanks for sharing the knowledge.

  • Keith says he never plays a song the same way twice. So in the spirit of playing like Keith, it's okay to make your own variations each time.

  • Keith only has 5 strings on his Tele.

Keith sat for a while with Gram Parsons and learned the technique.

If you tune the top E to a G you will not hurt your guitar.

I use to tune to E flat also, like SRV to use grande bends.

Try open tunings. Look up Richie Havens on u tube, I saw him play in 68.

He uses his thumb to bar a fret, or a few strings much like a "power cord".

For Power Cord see "Pete Townsen." Enjoy what ever you choose to do, music should be fun.

  • I tuned my E string (6th string) up to a G, and it sounds exactly like the G on the 5th string. Overall, it sounds a lot better than having the 6th tuned to a D. I don't know if the extra tension is bad for the guitar, but I don't think I'm taking much of a chance.
