Inigo Pipkin was an old guy who ran a puppet shop - the puppets could talk and move. It was made by ATV for the main ITV network in the 70's. After the actor playing the owner of the shop died they renamed it "Pipkins" and it ran on. Title song is a catchy little ditty sang by Jackie Lee - who sang on lots of TV shows, "Rupert The Bear" and "White Horses" to name but two. She was a very successful session singer with a great voice.

  • Hartley Hare was just like Larry Grayson! Even his teeth and voice! I liked Hartley, as he was the one who was always in trouble. Although he looked like he had been run over a few times!

  • @paulreno1 we used to call the pig, "sponge slit" as thats what his face was like a sponge with a slit for a mouth, and a birmingham accent

  • @whakawhakapapa Yeah, I don't think they spent a lot on that creation - or the voice over!

  • Classic...We want more...

  • @lagervice

I remember this tune and program but can't recall much about it. I remember the later Pipkins very well.

  • @paulreno1 Personally, I always thougt Hartley Hare looked like a dead hare. He was damn creepy.

  • @paulreno1 ha, ha - nope you sare right there, anyone in my family could have done it (alhtouhg since moving to NZ, Ive lost my brummie twang)

  • Such fond memories! The song always stuck in my head over the years.

  • Well remember the announcement of the death of Inigo IN the show. Quite traumatising as a child.

  • Sash remember this version. I was verry pissed off when Pipkins was replaced by Lets Pretend argh what were you thinking Atv/Central land :(

  • @drdawn86 Couldn't agree more. Larry Grayson was a likable chap - non-offensive. Loved the Generation Game (mind you, I did have a crush on Isla St Claire!) Still do! Hartley Hare was always a bit of a rebel. I liked his "dragged-through-a-hedge" look!

  • I remember that George Woodbridge who played Mr Pipkin died during the second series, & it was changed to Pipkins but it was never the same.
