Whole forests of Scots pines are dying out in canton Valais, due to heavy infestations of mistletoe. The parasitic plant bores into the host tree and sucks out its water and minerals. The mistletoe seeds are excreted in the droppings of mistle thrushes, which eat the berries. (swissinfo, Julie Hunt)
