"I Do! I Do!" by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt (The Fantasticks) was produced by the Old Globe Theatre in San Diego in December 2009. It was directed by Richard Jay Alexander and starred real-life married couple Paige Davis ( TV's "Trading Spaces", Broadway's "Chicago", "Boeing Boeing") and Patrick Page (Broadway's Grinch, "The Lion King", Beauty and the Beast" , "A Man For All Seasons"). Costumes by Charlotte Deveaux. Choreography by James Kinney. Lighting by Chris Rynne. Photos by J. Katarzyna Woronowicz, Vocal by Pamela Bruner.
IRRESISTABLE! Patrick Page and Paige Davis are both charmers and they fit together like yin and yang. Assisted enormously by James Kinneys custom choreography the two are pretty much irresistible. Richard Jay-Alexander has directed with a feather touch! San Diego Arts
CHARMING! One of the top ten productions of 2009! A delightful confection! Director Richard Jay-Alexanders fluid and clever staging, along with James Kinney's simple but elegant choreography, does much to enhance the quality of the theatrical experience. Patrick Page demonstrates why Robert Preston won the Tony for this role. Mr. Page's performance is a playful con that the audience welcomes. He constantly interacts with the audience. Ms. Davis also proves to be a talented comedienne and a fine dancer. ---Talkin Broadway
RENEWED LIFE! Page and Paige bring renewed life to I Do! I Do. They wring every bit of honesty and wit from the script. Page is a consummate actor with an innate sense of comic timing, extraordinary improvisational skills and a rich baritone voice. Davis is also a seasoned musical performer with a lovely singing voice, but she brings an extra quality to the table ---- the warm, endearing, likable personality that has made her a living room companion for millions of TV viewers. Together, they're an engaging onstage pair who look like they're enjoying every minute onstage together, and their easy, happy comfort with each other makes the characters they play all the more believable.-----North County Times
CAPTIVATING! Its difficult to fault this production on any level. Two talented and charming Broadway stars doing what they do best! Page is a multi-talented actor whose presence lights up any stage. Davis is oozing with charm. Its a perfect fit. Director Richard Jay-Alexander and his two stars leave a scrumptious taste and an after-glow at the end. I Do! I Do! is well worth the trip!----San Diego Jewish World
SEAMLESS! Paige Davis and Patrick Page hit every nuance of their 50-year relationship perfectly. Direction by Richard Jay-Alexander and choreography by James Kinney are essentially seamless. Realistically touching on passion, trust, expectations, and all the elements of married life, "I Do! I Do!" will appeal!----Del Mar Times
TOTALLY ASSURED! Broadway veterans Patrick Page and Paige Davis are totally assured as Michael and Agnes, who bare their warts-and-all marriage before the universe---and man, can Davis dance!----San Diego City Beat
A DELIGHT! Page amuses and entertains every moment on stage. Davis is a delight and brings exceptional skills to her role.----La Jolla Light
INFECTIOUS! Page and Davis show such infectious joy at working together in this show that its impossible not to enjoy it. Page is not only a fine actor but a terrifically engaging onstage presence. Davis is a fine actor as well. I Do! I Do! is a great chance to see them together. ---Gay and Lesbian Times
COMPELLING! Page and Davis are terrific in their characterizations. Both are compelling performers, and their ready-made rapport is palpable and irresistible. Michael and Agnes are brought to stunning life by the pair.----San Diego News Network
