If metal went 'mainstream', it wouldn't be metal anymore.The only way you make money playing music is if many people like your material,and we all know what's 'popular today' (mostly garbage)The music biz has flooded the market with 'cookie cutter garbage',which unfortunately is lapped up by the public.Real musicians play what they love, even if that means finding another career and playing on the side. Jazz, classical, metal,etc, these styles have always been difficult to make money with.
