The note at 3:25 is the truth! Love Leontyne... Extraordinary talent!

All of it is gorgeous, but what drives me CRAZY is the F natural at 1:44. She goes to a special place on this note, a shimmery, shivery little island that she alone inhabited. She often achieved this in her passaggio, and it always makes my heart stop.

assurdo che il miglior soprano verdiano è una americana, pero' bisogna riconoscerlo, è stupendaaa!!!!!

Is this the performance where she gets an unbelievable 42 minute standing ovation?!
Lord, I wish I'd been there....

@StuartLou Thank you. Sometimes I think even in a discussion of "In Diesen Heil'gen Hallen" the Callas Queens would jump in a mainain that SHE was the truly great Sarastro of the 20th century. Enough is enough. She was an important personality, a great artist and for a (far too) short time a good singer, but in no way identified with this role. If were talking abt. the greatest of the great Leonoras there is Zinka, there is Leontyne e poi, basta!

I was lucky to turn pages for one of her recitals and loved every second of it. What a voice and beautiful to watch.

Let's not talk about Callas here. This aria belongs to Milanov and Price. I heard Milanov many times (in her prime). I can still hear that sound. I was there "opening night" for Price & Corelli. You just heard. WHAT is there to say? In a different way i love Gencer doing this aria. We had giants then. It's all gone. Over. Kaput.

@4lebenbaum And Franco Corelli's too.
No one can surpass Leontyne Price! Don't even go there or you'll get 10 million people to disagree with you! Just because she's yesterday's Leonora doesnt mean she's no longer the best...she is and always will be the best Verdi soprano of all time!

I swear, no ever has and no one ever will do it like she did!!! At 80 she's still got the voice. She is legend. The most beautiful sound and such intelligence. Astounding.
