Ford never sought the Presidency or the Vice Presidency before ascending to one, then the other by fate. When Spiro Agnew, Nixon's sleazy attack dog got caught with his fingers in the til, the Democrats made it clear no other candidate but Ford was an acceptable nominee; never the sharpest tool in the box, but honest at the day was long and always eager to please, he stepped up to serve and when the Nixon Administration itself imploded, he stepped up once more to serve, with humility. I'm sorry, but I'm tired of hearing everyone say what a great man Gerald Ford was. As a nation we had the chance to learn the truth about Watergate, Vietnam, and how the US government consistently lies to its people. After the pardon he green lighted the Indonesian invasion of East Timor, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent people. Brokaw should stick to journalism and stay away from this praise rhetoric. We should live in a democracy, not a cult of mythology.
