I have hijacked this account in order to ask people a question about atheism. I want to clarify that I'm curious about what they mean by 'god' when they interpret atheism as not believing in god. Is it a personal god? Anything and everything supernatural? An atheism identifying with the former definition is still far from one who identifies with the latter.
(FYI, I consider myself an atheist).
Also, sorry if my video sucks.

I now have my own account: deedrock

  • @capusvacans,

    "Following you logic"

First off, there is no such thing as "my logic". Secondly, that christian means nothing has nothing to do with logic, that is a rule of english not of logic.

No label or name CAN mean anything, they REFER to an object.... defined words don't have a referrent and ARE their meaning.

  • @capusvacans,

Names and labels are not defined, they are described. They have no definition and are not their definition. Labels and names are pointers that do nothing else except refer to an object. Defined words never refer to an object.

There is also no such thing as a "true interpetation". Only propositions are true or false, interpetations may not have any propositions and still be accurate.

Atheism is simply the belief there is no god, there is no "other" atheism.

  • @gklr Indeed all words mean their definition.

Problem is the definition is made up out of words.

Those words can then be interpreted in different ways.

With as outcome multiple interpretations of the same definition.

Therefor atheism has different meanings, depending on who reads the definition.

You do not hold the only true interpretation.

Following you logic, a christian means nothing, but christianity does. You can see the fail in that can't you.

  • @capusvacans,

"Literaly Unicorn means : ONE horn. That's why i added the example of the septipod"

I didn't skip over anything and "unicorn" doesn't mean anything. Names and labels are described, not defined. Only defined words have meaning.

Atheist is a label, it means nothing and is not defined it is described.

Atheism is a defined word and is not described, it means it's definition.

    Literally.

  • @capusvacans,

A unicorn is a mythical character. What makes that so? The only verification of a unicorn is in storybook form. ie: a unicorn has 1 horn is not a truth, it is a myth.

Myths are 1 of 3 belief types, the other 2 being opinion and assumption.

The 2 truth types are empirical truth (this is what you'd need for the horn to prove a unicorn exists) and tautologous truth (purely analytical, logic only).

"if it exists it has 1 horn"

The myth exists, that can be proven.

  • @gklr Unicorn must have one horn if it exist, else it would be named ad a bihorn (if it has 2) or a trihorn (if it has 3). Literaly Unicorn means : ONE horn. That's why i added the example of the septipod.

Which you comfortably chose to skip. We call humans bipeds because we walk on 2 feet. If we walked on 3 feet we would be tripeds.

To bring this back to a UNIcorn, if it exists it has 1 horn, any creature resembling it but not having this would not be a unicorn.

  • @skywize I believe Angie coined 'Antitheism' if I am not mistaken.

  • In that light, I can't comppletely tell if she's cute, but the voice is adorable. I'd tweak the volume, however, as it is terribly difficult to hear this, at least on my laptop. As for what I think Atheism is... It is the next stage past skepticism. A skeptic must seek evidence to support things, while an Atheist tends to have found most of the evidence needed. Also there is Anti-Theism where the subject believes he has learned enough to disregard the believe completely, like myself.
