I noticed on here how many clevelanders are making comments! They have a great reputation as a fantastic band here and they are not even from Cleveland! Very distinctive sound.

Michael Stanley plays it just about every Friday afternoon on WNCX

Artful fuckin dodger. Cmon people OHIO does kick ass. Im from illinois and we got got cheap trick and reo. Big deal. My hometown Danville does however lay claim to the van dyke bros and gene hackman. And if not mistaken Alfalfa (rascals) lived not too far from here. Anyway Always loved a.d. since they first came out. Yes Im dating myself. Not literally though. Thats wierd.

Those were the days Cleveland Rocks , even though I have moved and those days can't be returned in my heart they always live !!

Cleveland does still rock and always will. Im a little dissapointed with some of the popular bands dissing us though by playing the areas not quit hits as hard by this damn economy. Kind of glad in my own selfish way that Artful Dodger and Michael Stanley didnt get overly famous. That way we could adopt them and keep them around a little more. LOL ;)

@karenpato1 Yes, you are correct that "Wayside" was originally released on the debut back in 1975. The promo video was done as part of the "Rave On" album tour. "Rave On" was originally going to be a 5 new song/5 live song album. However, Bill and Gary Herrewig managed to write another 5 songs for the album, so they dropped the live songs. The video was intended to be a promotion item for radio and TV.

I really like this song & it should've been a big hit for these guys. Is there a post for the studio version of this lost classic? This is enjoyable artful - thanks for posting this rock no radio stations would ever dare playing although WNCX did yrs ago.

Thanks for the post, and glad you like the song!
Sorry, there is no post for the studio version, out of respect for American Beat Records. They've secured the licenses for the entire Artful Dodger catalog. We're waiting on them to put out the reissues, which will hopefully be soon. ABR has a Myspace page if you want to give them a shout.

This is so good. So spot-on rock. This must be re-issued. I actually e-mailed the Numero Group (the label the released the Titan: It's All Pop compilation last year) because they released a single of the band when they were The Brats on their Yellow Pills Re-Fill discs. Numero was nice enough to reply, unfortunately, since AD was on a major label Numero did not have the economic resources to obtain the rights. Maybe Rhino? Or Rykodisc?

Actually, American Beat Records already licensed the debut, "Honor Among Thieves" and "Babes On Broadway" for reissue. Only the second one is available, but ABR was recently acquired by Collector's Records. I would say contact Collectors and see if they can get a status on the others.
