Neil Innes may play and sing, but you come for his wit, not his guitar chops. As a member of Monty Python's Flying Circus, The Bonzo dog Doo-Dah Band, and The Rutles, Innes' humorous music is packed with jokes and laugh-out-loud satire. Watch him play three classics from the NPR Music offices.

Set List:

"I'm The Urban Spaceman"
"Democracy"
"I Must Be In Love"

  • @timdaughte All members of Python have acknowledged Neil Innes as the 7th Python. I think that qualifies him.

Also, it was the Bonzos who, working with pre-Pythons on "Do Not Adjust Your Set", taught them to think outside the box, as it were, and have been given the credit for inspiring Python's creative genius.

Neil Innes is recognized by critics in England as the most important voice in British musical comedy in almost a hundred years; Neil's Rutles work is only part of that legacy.

  • How can you say he was a member of Monty Python?! He worked closely with Idle, Jones, and Palin on "Don't Adjust Your Set" and helped write several tunes for the Flying Circus, but does that make him a member of Monty Python? I think not, and I think a lot. He is obviously a comic genius and should be revered, but let's not embellish his C.V. His tunes for "The Rutles" are what he should be recognized for - Beatles parody every bit as creative and unique as the Beatles themselves.

  • He's awesome!

  • Nasty!

  • I'm the Urban Spaceman is one of my favorite songs. What a wonderful treat this performance was.
