Tripods work probably equally as good as setting the camera down on the dash, and they're not expensive. If you have to come to a sudden stop, having a camera on a tripod won't let the thing fly anywhere.

well you could just put it on dashboard but if there's not enough room on it then i don't know. you'll just have to play around with it until you find good position.
