In this video I explain and demonstrate how to drive a stick shift vehicle.I tried to be as detailed as possible for people who are true beginners.

Notes:
1.Reverse is basically the same as taking off in first gear.

2.At times you will only need to move your car a few feet(in first gear and reverse), to achieve this you must "nudge" the car slightly by giving it a bit of gas, releasing the clutch most of the way and then pressing the clutch in while releasing the gas. This will make the car move slightly.

3.Every car has a redline.Redline is the maximum rpm your car can reach safely. You can shift your car at any rpm up to red line. For normal driving it's best to shift between 2500 - 3000 rpm.

4.Keeping the car in gear while pressing the break will help aid you in slowing down.If you choose to do this make sure you shift the car into neutral when you reach slow speeds(usually 10-30 mph depending what gear you're in).For beginners it would probably be easiest to shift the car into neutral when ever you slow down to come to a stop.

  • So let's say i see a red light. 4th or 5th gear. I push the brakes, it starts to slow down. Slowing down, clutch in, shift to neutral. Let go of the clutch. I'm at a complete stop. Green light. Do i clutch in and start from the gear i was in? Or do i shift from neutral to 2nd and start from there again?

  • @BlackEquinox418

When you are at a dead stop you should start in first gear. If you try to start in a higher gear the vehicle may not have enough power to take off and it can be hard on your transmission.

  • This video is a lot of help for people who yet don't know how to drive stick but want to learn. Stick is really easy after driving for awhile with it. I personal like manuel better. I have a honda civic lx its a stick shift

  • @fierroscesar1

I enjoy driving manual vehicles also. It can be frustrating sometimes with having to focus on getting the timing right with everything and with driving in heavy traffic but it's still fun most of the time.

  • so thats the other reason why i stalled, i never gave it enough gas. thanks for tips bro

  • @ danboiidanny no, after you enter fifth gear, you just leave it there unless your going to slow down.

  • so in order to switch gears you have to clutch right? and what do you do after you go into the 5th gear,do you go back to 1st gear and start all over to the 5th? sorry haha im planning on getting a mazda rx8 and i wana learn xD

  • left handed shifting like a boss

  • What type of car is that

  • a pregunta/question what type of car is that ?

  • Perfect video!, now i feel more confident driving my new car with a manual transmission

  • I want to learn stick ...nd So far this is the best video ive seen on youtube that actually explains step by step great video -=]

  • When you put the clutch in to brake or slow down its called riding the clutch and will end up running it down and you will have to pay lots of money to replace it frequently so don't do that

  • So lets say youre in 3rd gear and coming to a turn so you begin to brake. Do you have to clutch in when you brake? and lets say you want to switch gears as well while your braking.. do you have to release the brake when you shift or can you keep it in brake?
