She jumped off the cliff to stop Chrom from giving Grengel (I think that's his name, its been a while) the Fire Emblem. Remember, Validar used the Fire Emblem to call Grima back into the world, and in addition its a powerful magic item. Emmeryn sacrificed herself to save the world from heinous fate.

Awakening isn't that good, it is fun but after about a week I lost interest.

This game is the revival of story telling we could only dream of, fed on memories from another age it seems. This game...is the awakening of a new generation of players, to see what we saw, and know what we know. That war...is brutal and neither side is ever right.
