There are two different types of hydrogen cars that work in different ways; one uses a hydrogen internal combustion engine, and the other uses a hydrogen fuel cell to produce electricity to power the vehicle. Discover more about how these hybrid cars work and the benefits of each type with this free video from an automotive industry writer and editor.

  • why don't they sell these cars now? Buying gas sucks and cause global warming.

  • It is just as safe as gasoline engine, moreso in an accident b/c if the tank if punctured it goes UP into the atmosphere. Norway already has a hydrogen highway. America will be the last one with this in the public b/c they're still milking gasoline and other fossil fuels.

  • @Nahiyan12 You may remember doing the experiment in science class. You take a cup of water, run electicity through it, and hold a beaker above. The electricity breaks the hydrogen bond which is then collected in the beaker. Then you hold a match up to the beacker and watch the hydrogen burn. You can get the electricity to do this from hydro, solar, or wind.

  • @Nahiyan12 You don't need oil to produce hydrogen.

  • Even though we need oil to produce hydrogen, at least the city won't get polluted by exhaust gases.

  • what about water....H2O....

  • Great! Start making hydrogen we will no longer be dependent on foreign oil.

"We need oil to make hydrogen."

Shut up! We'll make it work!

  • @grantkielyyyy But, once energy has been created, it can begin to split to water molecules using hydrogen. So really, you'd just need the fossil fuels to start it off.

  • @grantkielyyyy they'll probably find a way of efficiently electrolysing water

  • Cool so how do we get the hydrogen? And what are the overheads of producing it?

  • @rob92376 That's the thing Oil company's are spending millions in technology like this so in 20 years when the government bans the use of oil for gas(rather have it to make plastic, wouldn't you?) they will have a foothold already in the industry and try to expand it as much as possible to gain the advantage over others.

  • unless we find natural hydrogen pockets, its not that much cleaner
