Diddy Kong Racing Walkthrough Pt 50: Vs. Smokey the Dragon (2nd time)

Unfortunately I lost the original video file, so I had to redo the race, therefore losing the opening cutscene. Smokey doesn't say anything different from the other bosses, however.

This race is pretty difficult. In fact, even when you pass Smokey, you'll still have to dodge his fire clouds. Like the first race, Smokey will get a lead on you right form the start. Smokey is a little faster this race, but he spews out about twice the amount of fire clouds as he did before. From the start, get a super boost and, through the first cave, fly high! Do not fly by the ground this time since Smokey puts several clouds down there. Stay in second most of the first lap (using blue balloons to stay close to Smokey). The best time to pass is around the start/finish line (a little after I do it in the video, but that works too).

Once you pass him, weave in and out of the fire clouds that stay around. Unless you hit them, Smokey won't catch up. Keep using blue balloons and you'll be fine.

Beat Smokey to unlock the Trophy Race for Dragon Forest. You'll also receive the final piece of the Wizpig Amulet, meaning we can now race him! We'll do the final battle game first, however, followed by the Trophy Race (you'll have to do them eventually anyway).

@blackchickiedee7 I use the EyeTV, a recording device of Mac. I simply hook my systems into it and bingo.

You can treat balloon boosts just like Zippers: release acceleration right before you activate the boost. That will give you the green boost.

@crackiswhack098 if you check on ebay, you can get a USB to hook up to a controller. I have one that I got for .99 cents + like $3 to ship that can connect 2 playstation controllers. Some games are better off using N64 controllers, like shooters, but racing games are fine with it. I use a PS controller for N64, PS1, GameBoy, Super Nintendo, NES,.....
