College Football Las Vegas Bowl BYU Cougars versus Arizona Wildcats (-3) Saturday December 20th (8:00PM ET) (ESPN)
Arizona plays in their first bowl game in 10 years while BYU is once again at the Las Vegas Bowl. BYU had aspirations of a BCS bowl berth but went down in flames after being blown out TCU. BYU was also life and death against the 0-12 Washington Cougars surviving a 28-27 victory over a bad team. Arizona has played well on the season holding the USC Trojans to just 17 points and pounding Cal. Arizonas offensive coordinator Sonnie Dykes is excited about his spread offense and the BYUs defense has not been one of the better units under current coach Bronco Medenhall. The unit gives up an average of 351 total yards and Arizona does have weapons offensively behind senior quarterback Willie Tuitama. U of A brings a complete effort on offense and defense and they are the right side here. Take Arizona 3.
Selection: Arizona -3
Probably the most competent analysis I have seen of that match-up.
Neither SI or ESPN looked any deeper than the team's records, and the MWC's record vs the Pac10.
The only missing piece is UA's run defense. It is inconceivable that BYU had Unga running sweeps and screens. Power backs kill Zona, and that could have been the difference in this game.
Other than that... Arizona sports a top 15 offense, and a top 15 pass defense.
