Just when you think it can't get any worse with the radical nature of the vegan diet advocates, along comes something like what I'm about to share with you today that delivers a strong reminder that there is a contingent of people out there who do not want the truth about their way of eating exposed. Its one thing to disagree and have a healthy debate of ideas about diet and nutrition and their relationship to a healthy lifestyle. But acting criminally and causing harm to another human being in the process is just about as disgusting as it comes.
The crime took place at the 15th Annual San Francisco Anarchist Bookfair on Saturday while former vegan Lierre Keith was speaking about her book "The Vegetarian Myth: Food, Justice & Sustainability" ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.... ) where she responds to the common reasons for becoming a vegetarian or vegan and why they are completely invalid. She was giving her speech about her book at 2PM on Saturday, March 13, 2010 when suddenly out of nowhere she gets pelted in the face by three idiots wielding not just a pie, but one that has been laced with cayenne pepper. This is the stuff they put in pepper spray mace for people who are attacked by a would-be criminal. Except this time, the one who got physically assaulted was merely speaking the truth and letting people decide for themselves what is right and what is wrong. This took place in the San Francisco County Fair Building in Golden Gate Park.

Jimmy Moore from http://www.livinlavidalowcarb.com had interviewed Lierre Keith about her book on his "Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show" in February 2010 (listen to the interview here: http://www.thelivinlowcarbshow.com/shownotes/1583/20-year-vegan-lierre-keith-... ) and so he invited her back on his podcast three days after this incident took place to give her a chance to respond. This is the first half of the 15-minute chat with Lierre Keith and you can listen to the rest of the interview on the March 18, 2010 edition of "The Livin' La Vida Low-Carb Show":

@yafola1 "Humans are fair game..." Let's not overstate it. She got a little whip cream on her, from folks who were likely flesh eaters, who certainly didn't even know who she was or the WAPF she represents, playing a harmless prank. Boo hoo. Animals that she eats, however, are raped and tortured, enslaved and beaten every day of there miserable lives until they are mutilated and their bloody diseased bodies eaten. Seriously, if these folks were vegan, they would NOT have used whipped cream Peace

@FathomlessJoy You definately like to characterize me more than countering my arguments. Take a look at yourself and how/if your helping your cause. Im not sure if i read your video description before or if you changed it but still you forfeit on this spesific issue by the euphemism "this harmless prank was not called for" so then you should not gloat over it but rather distance yourself from it. You've got shit all over your biggot face. Cheers from an animal lover :D

The people who attacked her are people who cringe at the idea of animals being kept in cages! Humans are fair game, but don't mess with that animal! Just pathetic!

@leonjay1 I retract my comment after reading about her mental health problems. To pie someone with such a tenuous tie on reality is just plain cruel. After all, she called herself vegan for 20 years while "binging on meat and diary". Poor Lierre, she's so confused, so fucked up.

@elliotcavanagh Does that mean she should be assaulted?

@smurfieboo You're a fucking retard. The world needs to be cleansed of idiots like you. Assaulting a small defenseless woman? Normal human beings don't behave like his.

Again, as a vegan I do not condone the actions of the individuals in this incident. While it's disheartening to hear Mrs. Keith make false claims about the majority of vegans, I am sympathetic to her experience and urge anyone who disagrees with her message to find more intelligent, peaceful and constructive ways to engage in this conversation.

livinlowcarblife, can either you or Mrs. Keith provide links to scientific studies that show evidence that being vegan leads to violence? Perhaps a study on violent offenders in our prison population would be a good place to start (though you already know what the findings will be). Please contact me and let me know when you have provided the factual basis for the claims stated in this video. Thanks.

First off, I do not condone the actions of the individuals in this video. That said, they represent the minority and not the majority of vegans.
The idea that being vegan makes you violent and destructive or that vegans are always on a hair trigger is one of the most absurd statements I have ever heard. As a vegan of 6 years and a vegetarian for 10 years prior to that, I have never felt healthier or more at peace.
I wish Mrs. Keith all the best but urge others to fact check these claims.

That's awful, what happened to her. I do not associate myself with vegan's like this even though I am vegan. The few that are like this give all of us bad names. Shame on them! Very sad :(.
