  • BMW 2002TI>Ford Escort RS1600>Alfa Romeo GTV>Ford Lotus Cortina>510. An imitation can never be the best :p

  • lol..nice stir, but the 510 (1600) def hold its head high. Bought small affordable reliable stylish usable perf car to public sick of overpriced unreliable cars that cost a fortune to run and were worn out inside 5 years. The av guy could use 510 to take kids to school drive to work and do club m'sport at w'ends. 510 sold in many markets through out world and famously won the 1970 East African Safari rally in 1970 and the Ampol Australian rally where the crew was German..prob BMW spies...lol

  • @kjmoz All the attributes "unique" to the 510 you listed are borrowed from the BMW 1600. The Datsun was popular because it won a few races, and was thought to be a cheaper alternate to the BMW. I'm assuming you're saying that the real sport sedans I listed are unreliable. That is simply not true, my neighbor's 2002tii has close to 400k miles and he drives the damn thing every day, and my grandfather owned a Lotus Cortina for over 20 years before he crashed it.

  • We're talking about 4 cyl rear drive, 3 box sedans. It's a simple formula car makers everywhere follow. No manufacturer had a "patent" on the concept. Datsun is/was a very old company going back to the 1910's. I'm sure they had corporate knowledge that gave them the ability to think for themselves and did not need BMW or Ford products to show them what to do. Datsun never claimed 510 to be a sports sedan. Give one a few tuning parts though..and watch out. That's what annoys motoring snobs :)

  • OMG! what a nice car! *0*

Are your rims 13"? I can't find for a Datsun for wide tires :(

  • Hi, Thanks for the compliment. The rims are 14". Bigger wheels means bigger brakes.

  • The first new car I owned was a 72 Datsun 510. It cost all of $1,900. The 510 was enginered from the ground up to be a ralley car. The stock 510 was basically a detuned rally car! They had to put it on the market in order for it to qualify as a stock car, just like they do in NASCAR! If I remember correctly the stock version had 109 hp. Not bad for a four banger back then! It would take corners like it was on rails! Loved that car, too bad I got a bit over zealous and totaled it out! LOL

  • Very nice...wait...didn't I have somewhere a nice little Hotwheels-Modell of it...

  • @TheSheepherd Yes you did....thanks to a man named Jun Imai, who also brought us Hot Wheels 1971 Nissan Skyline 2000GT-X Group A racer, and the '72 Ken & Mary Skyline 2000GT-R, among various other things. Never would have thought twice about old JDM cars if it weren't for him (I got the Datsun first).
