Even in hospital labs such as the one I work in, manual tests are still done on samples which don't perform as expected in the analysers. This is a Thrombin Time (TT), which gives a slow gradual clot, which is quite easy to time manually. a PT gives a very sudden clot and if it happens to happen while you're dipping it into the water bath, you can miss it. Analysers notice the clot long before it can be seen by eye, so u have to remember that on the results.

I thought the measuring machine is abit more sophisticated than this, you set the tube on the head and the machine runs by it self to give the results automatically as for most of the heparin containing tubes and ASTD?

yeah i know that there are more sophisticated machines,, but in our college we have to measure it manually,,
