I'm a Scout leader and just hemmed my Scout pants using your instructions. Worked great! Just what I was looking for, and saved me time and money using a tailor. For a beginner, I think I did pretty good. Thanks for posting the video!

Wouldn't you wash something like jeans to remove the sizing? I know its a pain but I wash mine at least twice to be sure.

So what have I been doing that I call hemming where I fold it to the correct length inside and do a couple stitches to hold it?

That's also hemming, just a different method! I either roll my pants into a cuff or hem them like in the video, since I don't like the bulky extra fabric on the inside of the leg with the method you describe.

Great video, but not the best method to hem pants, imo.
There's a way to do it so that you don't have to cut any material out of the pants and you can keep the factory hem. I don't know how to do it myself, but I know it involves making some kind of fold in the inside of the pant leg and stitching it so it holds.
My mom hems my pants this way, and it's very hard to tell that they've been altered unless you're looking.
