Known locally as The Dye Works.

The plant off Bawtry Road,first opened as a liquorice works in 1900, and was a major supplier of leather treatment products to tanneries across the globe from the 1940s.

Clariant took over the running of the town's 32-acre factory from Yorkshire Group and BTP in 2001.

The continued rise in the price of gas, electricity and vital raw materials together with the unfavourable exchange rate for exports left no other choice but to review production at Selby.

Sadly in december 2008, the site closed its gates,with the loss of 168 jobs
