Dec 8 1984 Aberdeen 4 (Black 33, 61, McKimmie 44, McDougall 85) Celtic 2 (Johnston 57 pen, McGarvey 84)

ABERDEEN: Leighton, McKimmie, McQueen, Stark (Mitchell), McLeish, Miller, Black, Simpson, McDougall, Angus, Weir (Hewitt)

CELTIC: Bonner, McGrain, McLeod, Aitken, McAdam, McClair, Provan, P.McStay, Johnston, Burns, McGarvey

The match of the season - or any other season. A soaring header by Black and a deflected 30-yarder by McKimmie gave Aberdeen a commanding interval lead. Celtic fought back to score twice after the resumption but on both occasions Aberdeen hit back within minutes.

Features Chris Anderson interview at the end.

  • Brings back great memories, i came back from playing under 10's and they had it on radio scotland in the mini bus. Superb quality football back then in Scotland.

  • My first game up at Pittodrie. Great game. We didn't play badly, but that Aberdeen side were immense.

  • What great players the dons had in the 80's. Neil Simpson was a great tackler ;-)

  • Im afraid that aliens took over near the end of this footage judging by the sound of the voices, and pittodrie is now a shithole for them

  • Frank McDougall was for me one of AFC's best. Happy knack of right place, right time. Pity his back injury cut his career short.

By the way, he will shortly be back in Aberdeen - he's bought a pub in Guild St - Criterion I think?

    LEGEND!!

  • Good to see AFC so effective in those days. As for Archie's west coast bias, he's no fan of Celtic old Arch. Good luck on Thursday to the Dons. Who would you like to win the league this year anyway?

  • frank mac dougall is my best pal hes down in bury theses days i was reading your comments and laughing you know he got two match footballs that day for scoring a hat trick 1 was white and the other orange as it was snowing at half time and they changed the ball t/c mate

  • archie showing his west coast bias yet again! Celtic great run at Pittodrie goes way back, too sept 1983[bare in mind it was 1984 and probably meant they werent beaten in there last 2 visits!]. We have to laugh ot you would go mental at these biased people who are at the heart of Scottish football, which is unfortunate for the rest of us outside Glasgow!

  • Like going back in time! Had this on vhs for years so great to see it again. Two great teams with mostly Scots who would dominate Scottish football if around today with Utd at the time aswell. Sad the way things are now.

  • Great to see Chris Anderson talking at the end of the game. In 1985 AFC were rightly cast as the perfect way to run a club, and a business. It pains me to see that within 10 years of that interview AFC were truely fucked and in debt, and remain in great debt to this day.
