As Huggy Bear would say, that's a beautiful Tomato.

@sirlordwhitman This is the 1974 thur 1976 body style. True, FORD had the ELITE during the same time frame. It had single head lights with a Luxury trim package. The 72 and 73 Gran Torino's had smaller bumpers and smaller tail lights.

KF6LIL should stick with his Civic with a tuna can muffler. A well built racing automatic will withstand hundreds of burnouts and full passes. Spend your money on a TCI or comparable trans and leave the air fresheners on the shelf kid. Leave the drag racing to the adults. : )

@MrJesspatrick I think hes talking about the steels that go between the clutchs.

@KF6LIL What the hell is a "tranny plate?" I worked in a transmission shop as a kid, and have never heard of a tranny plate. Burnouts can put stress on the bands and input/output shafts, but not the valve body so much. I would think that burnouts are less cost efficient on tires rather than the drive train...Usually.

the launch on that is awesome starsky would be proud

Left lane was definitely a better lane this day, wasn't it?

@submitaweasel "INSANE!!" ?? I wouldn't go that far. I could lift the front wheels 1ft off the ground with a 70 monte carlo with 420 hp so its not that impressive. It's all about the suspension

Burn out's suck it only messes up the transmission meaning you will have to pay more to replace the tranny the plates on the tranny really take alot of beating not to mention the smell of a transmission burning up.

@KF6LIL
Burnouts are a fact of life if you race, gotta heat the slicks. The C6 Tranny is re-built with larger bands, difffeerent clutches, shift kits etc to handle it better, tranny hardly heats up in that short time. but yes I watch the temp gauge to be sure. Sometimes doing burnouts is kinda the point of owning a muscle car - having fun.

I thought the Torinos for 1976 were changed into the Ford Elite with the vinyl tops and opera windows in the back. The one in this video looks more like a 73-74.

@sirlordwhitman If I recall correctly, the Elite was a luxury model of the Gran Torino. The Gran Torino was identical for years 74-76, and Ford offered an Gran Torino Elite (different front bumper/grill, options etc), but were confused marketing wise and sometimes offering the Elite as a stand alone car not as a Gran Torino Option.
