Dedicated to all the people who kept on supporting me until now, to the people at Valve who made TF2, and to my parents who endured the nights I spend on making these skins.

And with that, the Steampunk Pyro contest on Game Banana is coming to a close, I hope I win something :P
Tanks to that experience, I learned a lot about modelling, and animating, so my future maps should unfold even more surprising features (and better models...).

The "Victorian Blast" shotgun and the "Cog" Axtinguisher/Axe, as well as the "Steampunk Arsonist" pyro reskin will be shortly available for download on Game Banana.

Now more about the video itself. First of all, thank you to Saiyaboy who hosted the map on his server, as well as Heme3ic, Ember of Hartmann, Ironwatsas, Zero Cool, and Smith the Robloxian for their acting performance.

This video was recorded with those players on July 23th, but I kept filming the scripted animation part on the 24th. As you can see, I made a mix of scripted animations and gameplay sequences, if I had finished all my models earlier, I could have mixed both on the same screen, also the version I imagined had more parts, like the Scout opening a valve of boiling water on the ennemy soldiers, the pyro actionning many different levers to boot a generator that would charge up his plasma thrower, in the end I didn't have any more time so I made a cut to the pyro holding his new weapon without giving any explanations.
The story has in fact the Pyro living with his mates in this factory with the goal of combining all the water boiling installations to transform overheated steam into pure plasma. Sadly, I sucked hard with the plasma thrower model, and I don't think it deserves to be include in the pack. The fault also to the fact that I never had a clear image of what I wanted it to look like.

In the far future, I may make a long version and complete the remaining scenes.

But in the immediate future, I'm going to make only-touhou skins/maps for most of the remaining summer.

Then I'm already on another project. More info about that another time...

  • I was expecting him to airblasr, burn and chop n' stuff, but NOOEEESSS, He goes and W+M1's 3 soldiers Instead...

  • @Furrunt I didn't have much time for the recording, even the flamethrower model was scrapped. This video was more about showing new models than showing advanced pyro gameplay.

Oh and on an unrelated note, I HATE the burn n chop style. Getting killed by a pyro who keeps airblasting you so you cant get away is so frustrating.

  • So its steam punk VS plasma/energy technology?

  • @mrbattlenet

I guess that both are compatible.

  • thats not steampunk

  • @CaveJohnsonAperture

The steampunk genre is very large, it can go from recycled junk like the Axe at 2:00 which was a lever, to stylish weaponry like the shotgun at 1:14. And the pyro with his golden mask and chest plate, coupled with his neck tie and coat is all the more steampunk to me. Then again, I guess that everyone has a different perception of what Steampunk is.

If I had the time I would have added more pipes and steam machineries in the factory...

  • oh my god this is so epic faved and downloaded the steampunk pyro 8D

  • @Fierce0Deity0Link I guess to me that axe looked like some weird magicians wand, to cartoonish for me, and his clothing well, for me again.

  • @Fierce0Deity0Link Ah, okay. That doesn't surprise me. I was really hoping it wasn't though. That soldier looked like the leader, so the effect looked intentional. Oh well, worth a shot asking.

  • @HITMANSPIKE007

Ah Meet the Medic you mean? No, that was an bug. The player played Medic during the game and did the taunt, then later he switched to soldier, and when I edited the replay, the effect appeared even though he was now a soldier.

There are similar cases of visual bugs seen when editing replays.
