Chess Traps #1: Ruy Lopez Mortimer Trap

This video explores the Mortimer Trap which is attributed to the player James Mortimer. This trap can be played by black in the Ruy Lopez opening. If white falls for the trap, the white player will be subject to a positional nightmare.

@arunjaja I think you mean C4. You can still move your queen and check the king. Then take the knight on the next move.

when pawn comes to C6 at 1:22 to attack the bishop, what if bishop moves from B5 to C3 rather than A3 creating probability of checkmate on next move...

This one cholito tried the Ruy Lopez, Smyslov Variation against me (1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 g6) so I'm like I don't think so holmes and I went 4. c3 d6 5. d4 Qf6 6. Bg5 Qg7 7. dxe5 f6 8. exf6 Nxf6 9. Bxf6 Qxf6 10. Bxc6+ bxc6 11. O-O Bg4 and he pinned my knight to my queen but then I was all like watch this ay 12. Qa4 Bd7 13. Re1 Be7 14. e5 Qf7 15. exd6 c5 16. Rxe7+ Qxe7 17. dxe7 Bxa4 18. b3 Rd8 and I should've taken his rook but I didn't but it's ok in the end I still checkmated that fool ay.
