Volz spent 13 months imprisoned in Nicaragua for a crime he didn't commit. There were 10 witnesses putting Eric in Managua over two hours away from the scene at the time of the murder, and there was no forensic evidence linking Eric in any way to the crime. The prosecution's main evidence was the testimony of a co-defendant who exchanged immunity for stating that he saw Eric at the scene of the crime.

I believe because law enforcement didn't have a suspect they wanted to blame the murder on Eric even though they didn't have no evidence. They were jealous because he had money, he was american, and he was wants married to a beautiful women of their country. There was no no evidence that showed he committed the murder plus he had proof where he was at the time of the murder. This shows how messed up and unfair the criminal justice system is in that country.

Don't stay away from Nicaragua because most Nicaraguans knew that Volz was railroaded. I have never seen such blatant media manipulation as I saw there (and I used to live in the ex-USSR). I was recently in San Juan del Sur and it's a great place with good people. They feel they were manipulated by local police and national media. Even fellow American expats were convinced at one point of his guilt. Just really glad he has been set free. The truth is out.

Just leave these people to themselves. If they don't want foreign investment stay the fuck away. Invest in a country where there is a stable government and a better than average chance of having some kind of rights enforced.
