i just drove through there yesterday and they still have 1 lane closed for miles.
-
Nope, it's still blocked, too. TDOT is expecting work to be finished by the end of March, now.
That's a 100+ mile detour, too.
-
Should of built the road on top of all the dirt would have been cheaper and faster!
-
I'm surprised too. Must be some bureaucrot land rules slowing da DOT down.
-
3 months to clean up a pile of rocks??????.
Talk about milking a job, typical DOT. Give me a break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
we didnt know about this so when we tried to go to nc from wisconsin and met this rock slide..we took a very long detour..
-
I-40 and US 64 closed all at the same time? Looks like we'll be taking the Tail of the Dragon highway instead as the official detour route to get to Tennessee enroute back to California from N.C.! We're driving a pretty good sized RV that used to be a greyhound bus that was retrofitted, btw! Wish us good luck on the TOTD road!

It's because they were told not to build it and this would happen ad the morons rallied to have it built.
-
anyone thinking of taking Highway 64 to bypass this.... too bad... rock slide here too.. They think they can get it cleaned up in about 3 weeks.

It doesn't take 3 months to clean up a pile of rocks but it does to stabilize the side of a mountain so it won't happen again anytime soon. They will be blasting all of the loose rocks off of the mountain side for quite a while.

Yes 3 months at least.... and lots and lots of overtime will be needed... They will also need to higher cops to direct traffic and also pay them lots of overtime. Looks like a 5-6 million dollar job to me. ;-)
