Sweet mermaid *episode 14*

Jay: How are you?

Chelsea: Fine, I guess.

Jay: You don't really seem like it.

Chelsea: It's a long story.

Jay: Let's take a walk on the beach and you'll tell me.

Chelsea: You won't get in trouble for leaving your job?

Jay: No It's time for my break.

Chelsea: Oh.

Jay: Let's go.

They walked outside and Jay closed the shop. They reached the beach and walked on the sand.

Jay: So, what happened?

Chelsea: I was in a relationship.

Jay: It ended badly?

Chelsea: Yeah. He didn't know what he wanted.

Jay: He left you.

Chelsea: No, I did. I asked him to choose between having me or not having me

Jay: He's a moron.

Chelsea: You don't know the whole story.

Jay: I don't need to. Such a beautiful girl as you should never be left alone.

Chelsea blushed. Jay had his way with words. Something she liked about him.

Jay: It's the truth.

Chelsea: If you say so.

Jay: *he looked at the ocean* I have an idea.

Chelsea: What?

Jay: I can teach you how to surf.

Chelsea knew that if she go in the water, her legs would turn into a tail. She couldn't betray her secret. Not again and certainly not like that.

Chelsea: Um, no thanks.

Jay: Why not?

Chelsea: *she lied* I don't know how to swim.

Jay: You can learn.

Chelsea: I can't. I'm afraid of water.

Another lie.

Jay: Oh.

Chelsea: Sorry.

Jay: You don't have to be. It's fine.

Chelsea hated to lie but she had no choice. The one time she told the truth, things didn't go well. She chose to protect herself for now.




~Meanwhile~
Joe looked at Abby. She was asleep, her hair spread on the pillow. She had blond hair like Chelsea. The only difference was their lenght. Abby's were long while Chelsea's were above her shoulders. Chelsea. He missed her already. What did he do? He let her go away when he had her. His own fault but she didn't give him much time to think. He thought he knew why. She was expecting an answer coming from his heart but he was thinking with his head. He didn't let his heart speak and goodbye Chelsea. Abby moved a little in her sleep. His second choice. She didn't seem to bother. She was cheap. Joe felt a bit guilty to think about her in such a way. It was bad and it wasn't himself. He used to be more caring. What happened to him?
