  • You know? Disney did an extremely good job with this piece in fantasia. I still imagine broomsticks when I hear this song.

  • @Pterodactyl13 That's kind of the point. The piece is BASED on the story about the sorcerer's apprentice and the enchanted broomstick. Hence the title. The animation in Fantasia really is great, but Disney doesn't deserve all of the credit; it's a product of four great works: Lucian's original story in the second century, Goethe's retelling of it in his 1797 poem, Dukas' genius musical vision of it in 1874 that you're listening to here, and Disney's amazing animation of it in 1940.

  • Me and my class are playing this in ensemble, a much shorter version, though. Such a pretty song!

  • @ClarJMoon Although it is worth noting that the piece was also very popular during Dukas' lifetime (which grew to annoy him, 43 years before Fantasia even came along). Usually when a composer gets such massive exposure, as with the Disney version, it encourages people to investigate other works by them. If it didn't happen in this case, perhaps it is more Dukas' fault than anyone's because The Sorcerer's Apprentice is such an imaginative piece that it overshadows the rest of his output!

  • @1993joshualiu

WHAT????? you mean which MOVIE was this SONG used in. Fantasia

  • Beautiful piece! But I still prefer Clair de Lune.

  • @Ikonicre Chronology shronology. Just like David Bowie borrowed "The man who sold the world" from Nirvana and Dolly Parton took "I will always love you" from the sadly recently deceased Whitney Houston.

  • Yen Sid is really scary, I would have nightmares about him.

  • @Ikonicre It's sad to admit that the only reason why people even know Sorcerer's Apprentice or Dukas is ...sigh...Disney...as with all the other fairy tales ==

  • i love this song so much

  • @rainwalker93 If you think Disney made this song haunt you just try listening to Night on Bald Mountain by Modest Mussorgsky.

  • @rainwalker93 really
