Part one of this 1980 documentary explored the development of wind power in the late 19th & early 20th centuries and it's decline due to the widespread development of massive coal and gas fired electric power plants. In part 2 we look at the present (circa 1980) status of wind power and it's outlook for the future. What they couldn't project was the election of a president that would scrap government support for renewable energy. Instead of developing the industries of the future we would then spend most of the next thirty years protecting and exploiting the industries and resources of the past. Now that are nearly bankrupted by this short sighted policy and in danger of falling behind the rest of the world in developing these technologies we finally have an administration that sees the moral, financial and environmental advantages in developing renewable energy. But I digress.
In the film they also touch on the development of the legal basis for selling power that people generate on their own back to the power companies. So watch enjoy and think about where we might be today if we'd followed the path shown in this film.
